Wako by Marukyu Koyamaen
Wako by Marukyu Koyamaen is an Uji matcha known for its smooth, clean character and low bitterness. Wako has a fresh aroma with a light, smooth finish, making it particularly well suited to traditional usucha.
Compared with Aoarashi and Isuzu, Wako moves away from noticeable bitterness and astringency towards a smoother cup with a gentle sweetness, it's easy to drink with a good amount of umami.
How Does It Taste?

Wako has a smooth overall flavour with mellow umami, gentle sweetness and very little bitterness. Fresh green notes sit in the background, giving Wako a more rounded taste.

Fresh and clean.
Finish:
Light, smooth and clean with very little lingering bitterness. This smooth finish is one of the main characteristics highlighted by Marukyu Koyamaen.
What to Enjoy It With
Japanese Sweets:
Pair with wagashi, mochi or dorayaki.
Western Sweets:
Enjoy with butter cookies, sponge cake, vanilla desserts or lightly sweet pastries.

Brewing Tip
Wako is best appreciated as usucha. Start with around 2-3g of matcha and 70ml of water at approximately 75–80°C. This allows its smooth finish and natural sweetness to come through. For lattes 3g of matcha and 40ml of water.
